Facelift complete...

FINALLY...

I have used my Annie Sloan chalk paint on a few small projects but this was my first large scale project and it was so much fun I think I'm going to have to go get more colors to try.  I found this cute little vintage vanity and thought it would be adorable with a little TLC and a new coat of paint.

I forgot to take a picture before I removed the mirror.

I decided to strip all the paint off in case the old paint was lead based and how lucky for me, it only had four coats of paint on it.

Here it is with most of the paint off.

Here it is with a coat of Annie Sloan paint in graphite.

This is it after as Mr. Miyagi says...wax on, wax off.  I did cheat a little, notice the bucket to the left.  Believe it or not its a car buffer (laugh if you want but sometimes you just gotta think out of the box).   I borrowed it from my brother and yes I did use it (some) but there was a lot of hand buffing involved too.

My beautiful daughter and helper. Notice the attire and lack of shoes...can you believe its Thanksgiving Day and she's dressed like that.

Still on the fence about the drawer pulls...I kinda like them but wondering about changing to clear glass knobs.  What do you think?

Now to get a piece of glass to complete the vanity and its all done.  Guess I will be visiting Cox Hardware to get my glass cut.  Nothing like home town friendly service.

Ahh...the glow represents my happiness at finally getting this done.

New name, new style...same ole me

For those of you that have followed my blog you may notice there has been quite a change including the name of it as well as the design.
I have been an on again off again blogger but I hope to change that and go back to updating my blog more often.  I have a goal in mind but won't share it (just in case I don't meet it then no one will know but me)...

I have been busy working on setting up a booth in a couple of vendor malls.  One is Valley Treasures in Renfro Kentucky and the other is at The Shoppes at Vendors Mall in Somerset Kentucky.  Both of these places are just wonderful little shoppes with a welcoming, home town feel.

What will you find in my booths?  Well just about anything you can imagine, from vintage glassware, vintage pictures, vintage linens, vintage furniture (do you notice a theme here), painted furniture, repurposed items, hand made items, maybe a few new items...basically anything goes.

Vintage Tablecloths are a weakness of mine...I love the beautiful colors.
How about a vintage Wilendur?

Beautiful hand made bags by Cat's Carpetbags...love, love, love!
You won't believe what this secretary looked like before I re-did it.
Blue clock and vintage label Steampunk design resin pendant
Hand crafted jewelry made by me...(this one available on Etsy).
Maybe a  Jeannette shell pink milk glass hostess set, some swirl bowls or vintage pyrex.

Maybe a little something re-purposed and painted with Annie Sloane chalk paint.

Wouldn't this be perfect with some burlap, a red candle and greenery for Christmas.

Be sure to stop by and check out all that we have to offer.  I'm sure Addie will make you feel welcome and right at home when you walk in at Valley Treasures.  If you visit The Shoppes at Vendors Mall in Somerset Robin will be right there with a smile on her face just waiting to assist you in finding that perfect item.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Its Been Awhile...

I've been looking at my blog and since its been so long since my last post I thought I would post a picture of a little something simple that automatically makes me feel a little happier. I'm sure we all have that little thing that brings a smile to our face, right? This is by far not the most important thing that makes me smile, of course my kids, husband and family come first but there is just something about this that makes me think happy thoughts.

Are you ready? Here it is....

Yeah, I know kinda ridiculous isn't it, but doesn't a Gerber Daisy just scream Be HAPPY!

It does for me. So what's that one little thing that makes you smile when you see it?

Wishing You and Yours Peace On Earth

Anyone feeling stressed yet?  If not tell me your secret!   For those of us that are stressed because of the lights that don't work (HUGE stressor of mine), a gift that you really need and can't seem to find anywhere,  the traffic, the crowds at the stores and on and on and on(the list is endless) please take a moment and a deep breath and just enjoy this most wonderful time of the year.

This is probably not what you had in mind when I said "Peace on Earth" but I think its a fun way to say it...

Yeah...I know its not your traditional Christmas tree but it sure makes me happy to look at it.  This brings a little peace to me and I hope it did you too.

Wishing you a Peaceful and Merry Christmas a little early!!

Looks Like Frosty Has A Wife

My daughters school project last year lead to this charming little snow couple.  She was supposed to create something using recycled materials so this is what we came up with.  Maybe we need to make another couple so they can have some friends.
The project was really easy and of course inexpensive considering they are made using recycled materials
This is how they started out.
Frosty was the first one we made but since he was so handsome we thought he needed a girlfriend.
Scrap fabric for his hat and scarf, the berry and greenery were from some old Christmas decorations, the eyes are cuttings from where we trimmed some candles wicks, toothpicks were used for the nose and arms (no they were not recycled they were new), the wax was candle making wax to which we added some old and broken white crayons and a little glitter to make him sparkle.

Same thing for Crystal (remember the movie where he got married).  Her hat is actually from some old dress up/play clothes of my daughters, pearls from an old play pearl necklace and her scarf was some left over/scrap ribbon.  The eyes, nose and arms are the same as Frosty's.

Now we have a couple of new items to use for our Christmas decorating and by the way she got an A+ on her assignment and we had fun working together to make them.  Here's a little shot of the happy couple together.

In the words of Parson Brown "I now pronounce you snowman and wife".
Hope you enjoy and hopefully we can make some real Frosty and Crystals soon.
